About

Born in NYC and raised in NJ, Danny is the son of Cambodian-Chinese refugees. He attended Stanford University, where he earned a dual Bachelor's in Psychology and Communication and a Master's in Sociology. Following that, he worked as a marketing strategist at Google for a year. However, his passion for Japanese food and culture led him to move to Tokyo, where he intensely studied Japanese at Waseda University and later worked at Rakuten as one of their first bilingual foreign employees, focusing on global business development. It was during these four years in Japan that he became business fluent, met his wonderful husband, and developed an even deeper appreciation for Japanese culture and cuisine, which continues to fuel his passion for Bokksu.

After returning to New York and completing the Computer Science program at Columbia University, Danny founded Bokksu in 2015. He utilized every skill and contact he had to bring the company from concept to launch in only three months without any outside funding. Today, Bokksu is valued at $100M and employs a diverse staff of 80, with 80% of them identifying as BIPOC, female, and/or LGBTQ+.

In addition to his work at Bokksu, Danny loves rock climbing, playing board games, and binge-watching anime. Above all, he is passionate about creating a better world by promoting cultural understanding, supporting traditional makers, and bringing people together through the joy of food.
